Preferred Standards of Digital TV Aerial Signals By dariellgared at 2012-05-23 23:16:23

With almost every home having at least one television, it is not surprising to have better television models coming out in the market with advanced technology and better features. This leads to the emergence of digital TV aerial option which provides more benefits than the analog option.
Features
There are various features with digital TV aerial which make it a growing preference over the traditional TV aerial. There is an authorized body, CAI, which sets the standards on digital TV aerial installations to ensure great viewings on any digital TV. Aerial installers who are CAI certified enjoy more business as consumers prefer the latest technology in their affluent lifestyle today.
There are several levels of CAI standards for all digital TV aerial installations; professional digital TV aerial installers should adhere to one of these standards to assure consumers of the desired viewing outcome on their television sets.
CAI Benchmarking
Standard 1 of the CAI benchmarking scheme is the highest standard available. It is meant for areas which have the poorest receptivity; this standard allows better reception of digital TV aerial signals through improved C/N ratios.
Standard 2 of the CAI benchmarking scheme is the body’s intermediate standard; it is meant for wideband or grouped TV aerials where better signals can be received.
Standard 3 of the CAI benchmarking scheme is the minimum standard set which is usually applied to areas with good receptivity for digital TV aerial signals.
Standard 4 of the CAI benchmarking scheme refers to log periodic aerials which are used with wideband digital TV aerial that require better than Standard 3 performance.
Analog/digital signals
There is still a strong usage of analog signals in the market although the drop off or threshold TV aerial signal level is only 47dBuV. The minimum preferred level of analog signals has been set at 60dBuV while the maximum preferred level for best viewing is set at 80dBuV.
However, comparatively, the minimum digital TV aerial signals at the receiver or television set is usually 45dBuV with a recommended 50dBuV signal level while the maximum preferred digital TV aerial signal level is70dBuV.
The ideal Digital TV Aerials signal range is 45dBuV to 65dBuV depending on the receptivity in a particular area. The carrier noise (C/N) level ratios for digital TV aerial signals should be at least 26dB for a good and reliable reception while a C/N ration of 23-25dB would offer only a marginal reception; any C/N ratio below 22 dB would constitute an unreliable reception.
